Restaurant is on the second level. Place is pretty small. Very narrow and so they only have tables that sit either a max of 2 or 4.
View from my table. It's the only table by a window so it was a pretty good spot. The only drawback was that it was right by the door. We got there around 6ish so the dinner crowd wasn't there yet.
This is like the third restaurant I've been to around this area and there's a few more on my list. Who knew I would be coming here so frequently.
The gave us this bottle of water to start with. Surprisingly, we barely used it. Well, I take that back. We had wine so I think we mostly drank that the whole time. Btw, it is BYOB.
Sis bought white wine. I didn't look at the bottle. It was pretty sweet actually. Not the best wine I've had but good enough that I drank two glasses. I felt buzzed afterward and it felt good ;P
Beef Cutlets |
I think this had a beef and potato filling. It had a pretty good kick to it. I enjoyed this appetizer. The sauce kinda reminded me of some sort of tomato/ketchup condiment. It went well with the cutlet.
Prawn Curry |
Would you believe me if I told you that this dish was $13? lol, well it is! Yay, it was totally not worth it. Nothing really stood out about this. It wasn't bad but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
Chicken Lamprais |
"A Dutch influenced "special occasion" dish of flavored rice served with chicken, fish cutlet, boiled egg, ash plantains & eggplant baked in a low oven after it is wrapped in a banana leaf to give this dish a unique flavor."
This was alright too. The rice was a tad bland. The meats were decent. Again, this wasn't bad but it didn't wow me either.
Kottu Roti (Chicken) |
"A Sri Lankan road-side specialty prepared from doughy pancakes shredded and stir fried with vegetables, onions and egg."
This was my order. I liked this the best (besides the appetizer). This was something different. Decently flavorful. It's made from doughy shredded pancakes. It kinda tasted like a fried rice dish. Not bad. It had a nice kick to it too. The sauce on top of it was some kind of curry sauce that you can put on the dish.
Aappa (Hoppers) |
"Wafer thin, bowl-shaped pancakes made from a fermented batter of rice flour and coconut milk includes: 3 plain hoppers and 1 egg hopper with a choice of sauteed onion sambol or coconut sambol."
This was alright too. It's carbs so I liked it. It's pretty thin. Some parts were soft and some parts were crispy. It has a coconut taste to it. My sis got the coconut sambol and I wasn't a big fan of it. I just ate hopper with the prawn curry.
So overall, not a bad place. Was it really excellent? Eh.. I would definitely go back but not anytime soon unless a friend wanted to go. The next time I go, I want to try their other appetizers and the String Hopper Kotthu.

I cant believe those hoppers set you back $11. It looks so...cheap. It looks like that stuff we get at Indian restaurants.
ReplyDeleteyeah, the food wasn't cheap at all. I guess that's what you get for eating in Manhattan.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have gone to a Sri Lankian restaurant unless I knew someone from there. Definately different, the appetizer looked the best!
ReplyDeleteI'm not tempted.
