Pok Pok NY

I really wanted to go to bed (Yes, it's only 9:09pm...but I am tired!) but I figure I post these pictures up. Because my eyes are half open, I will post with minimum commentary.

Thai Iced Coffee...I gotta say. This was pretty good. It's the best Iced coffee that I've had at any restaurant. It was almost as good as my brother's Iced coffee.

This was my friend's drink...was it peach? Or was it mango? I can't remember anymore ;P

...wait a sec...I think I see it on the receipt. I believe this is a Mango Alexander. My friend enjoyed it.

Ike's Vietnamese Fish Sauce WIngs (Spicy)
This was good. The wings were small (which I love) and crispy. There was enough heat for you to taste but not enough for you to grab that cup of water. The flavor overall was rich. Good wings.

Kai Yaang (Half Bird)
Out of everything we ordered, I gotta say that this was the most disappointing. That might not be as bad as you think though. The hen wasn't bad tasting...it was just ordinary. Nothing special about it. The sauces that came with it was ordinary too. The chicken at Pio Pio is much better.

Since there are so many dishes to try, I would not get this until you have tried everything else.

Papaya Pok Pok
This was good. I've always been a fan of papaya salad. My sister makes it really good and I think this one here is just as good. The salad was flavorful and had just the right amount of heat. I would recommend getting this because it's light and won't interfere too much with your other dishes.

Sai Ua Samun Phrai (Sausage)
There weren't that many slices so I only got to taste just a little of this. Based on what everyone said though, it sounded delicious. The sauce that came with it was described as good and spicy.

Khanom Jiin Sao Naam
This was different. It's a sweet dish although I wouldn't categorize it as a dessert. I wouldn't say that this was bad but I'm not sure everyone would like it. This would be something to share among a big crowd just so that you can taste it. I wouldn't get it if I only had a party of two or three.

Cha Ca "La Vong" (Catfish)
The fish was good. It was nice to eat something besides beef and poultry.

Neua Naam Tok (Steak salad)
I think this was the steak salad...although I don't really see it on the receipt. Maybe it's under a different name. Either way, I enjoyed this. Usually, when I get these dishes, I am afraid that the steak is too red. To my surprise, this one was not. The beef was cooked yet still very tender.

Da Chom's Laap Meuang (Minced pork salad)
I think I might have gotten a bad piece or something but I did not enjoy this at all. I only took a very small amount to taste and it had this funky "meat taste" to it. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Kaeung Hung Leh (Pork Belly)
This one might be under a different name too since I don't see it on the receipt. Anyway, I think there is only one pork belly dish on the menu and this one is it. This was good but I wouldn't say it's great. The taste is similar to a dish that my brother makes at home. The pork however was tender and flavorful.

Kung Op Wun Sen
Picture one is what the dish looked like when it came out and picture two is what it looked like after we mixed it.

...I think I'm writing too much so my comments will be limited to one sentence from now on... ;)

This dish was not bad. Nothing special.

Sticky rice...how cute.

Pok Pok Affogato
Yummy...their best dessert imo.

Coconut Ice Cream Sandwich
The bread says enough...come on...

Sankhaya Durian
I actually liked this ;)

Overall, good restaurant. Just make sure you are ready to wait if you want to go there. The wait can range from an hour to 90 minutes or more...

Siam Orchid

Dad wanted to go out for dinner and sis suggested going to the local Thai restaurant near us. I've been there a few times and was never impressed but I was still down.

(Pics taken from an iphone)

Pina colada for my bro. I forgot to ask him what he thought of it.

Thai beer for my dad. Again, I didn't ask him what he thought of it. Actually, even if I did, he probably would have been like..."eh, whatever..."

My thai ice tea. Omg, this was the worst thai ice tea ever. I usually finish my drink but I had to force myself to drank just half of this one.

This was my pad kee mao. It doesn't look like it right? I told the waiter that I wanted it spicier than regular spicy and guess what? It wasn't spicy at all! It's like they made another noodle dish (noodle with soy sauce). It was on the sweet side too (which is weird). But even though it wasn't what I was looking for, it tasted alright. Good enough to eat.

Sis ordered some kind of curry. I didn't even try it since sis said it was bland and I don't like thai curry to begin with.

Fried snapper in some kind of sauce. I had a piece of this. The fish was pretty small in my opinion and it tasted alright. My first piece had several bones in it so it kinda turned me off. But what can I expect from a fish dish right?

This was a shrimp, chicken and beef dish. I liked it. I was only able to eat one shrimp and it was pretty good imo. The beef was eh. I forgot about the chicken (shocker right?)

This was the best dish. Lightly fried beef in ? sauce. The beef was nice and tender yet it had a nice fried texture.

So overall, it was an okay dinner. We managed to finish all the dishes (except the curry) so I would come back here. When I do, I will get the fried beef dish and a few new dishes.

The bill came out to be around $100 before tip. Pretty expensive for the food imo.

The place is along the bay so it's a nice area to eat at. I'm just not crazy about the crowd there ;P

Rhong-Tiam Express

I think I found out about this place from another food blog. Reviews seemed good and menu looked good too. They have some unique things but since this was my first time going there, I opted for my usual dish...

Anyway, it was one of those windy and cold new york days but I went out for a walk anyway.

This is really more of a take out restaurant, which is probably why the word "Express" is in the restaurant title. When you go inside, you'll see a big counter and a couple of tables on your right. Maybe there are more tables somewhere else but I didn't see it.

Drunk Man Noodle with Chicken - Lunch Special- $8.50 (before tax)

The noodles were pretty spicy. Certain pieces were spicier than others. If the whole thing was spicy, I don't think I would have enjoyed it. It tasted slightly different from your typical drunken noodles. It had a strong "black pepper" taste to it. The sauce was spread out evenly. You know how sometimes, when they cook noodle dishes, they don't properly spread out the noodles and so there are pieces of noodles that have no sauce? Yea, this wasn't too bad.

The lunch special came with a Thai salad. I enjoyed this. The peanut dressing was good. I liked the greens too. It wasn't your crappy iceberg lettuce ;)

I dunno - overall, the food was good but at the end, I wasn't that satisfied. I was really full but I just didn't feel satisfied. Maybe I am getting sick of pad kee mao/drunk man noodles...I guess I need to spice things up! I will get one of their roti wraps the next time.

BKNY Thai

Been wanting to try this Thai restaurant out for awhile. Finally got a chance to try it with a friend the other week.

It was a really windy day!

I was lucky enough to find parking right in front of the place.

Pretty nice inside.

Not sure why but I've been taking random pictures of utensils. People must think I'm crazy at these restaurants.

Baa Mee Grob Lad Na - Crispy egg noodle topped with mushroom, bamboo shoot, scallion & gravy sauce

This was my friend's dish. I think she liked it. I do remember her saying that it was a tad salty though. I didn't try it so I can't comment on the taste.

Pad Kee Mao - Spicy pan fried noodle sauteed with fresh basil, onion, bell pepper & string bean

Ahh...my dish. My usual. I got it "spicy". This was alright. Not the best pad kee mao but decent. It was decently spicy too. I wouldn't go back just to eat this dish though.

Fried Banana with Ice Cream (lychee)
My favorite thai dessert...

Lychee ice cream. This was pretty good. At first, it didn't sound too good but I liked it.

To be honest, I was a tad disappointed with the fried banana. It seemed too mushy for me. However, it was still good enough! I went home that day craving it. I almost tried to make it on my own that night but was too lazy to get the wrap.

I will make this on my own soon though...pictures will be taken..

So overall, it was a decent experience. Place is nice. Decor isn't your typical "asian" restaurant. Service was okay. The place had a "party" on the other side so I think they were occupied with them. I don't have any major complaints though.
