Brownies - Ghirardelli Walnut Mix

Brownie Glory Stealer

Labor day weekend has finally arrived and I'm torn between being happy that I have 3 days off from work and being sad that it is the unofficial end to summer. I think I'm more sad than happy but that's a whole other story.

As my Friday work day was winding down, I started thinking about what I was going to do this long weekend. I didn't come up with anything. I wasn't in the mood for anything particular and part of me just wanted to be alone and be a bum. So the work day ended and I went home with just plans for the rest of the day (which was to go for my daily walk and dinner with some friends). The walk was good btw. Got my 2.5 miles in, did some running (20 seconds) and ran up two flights of stairs.

Feeling pretty good about myself, I drive home, shower and head out for dinner.

My friend and I got to the restaurant early and we started talking to kill time as we waited for the others to arrive. As we were talking (mostly about food), it dawned on me that I could finally make my brownies this weekend! Yay, I can finally knock that baby off my list of things to do.

Friends finally came and we began our dinner. Details about the specific restaurant will be posted later. This post is dedicated to my brownies.

Ok, so I get home from dinner, wash up and go downstairs to see what's up with everyone. As I walk into the kitchen, I see my sis and some baking supplies out. I'm thinking yay, she's going to bake something. My happiness only lasts about 2 seconds because as I look a little closer at the supplies, I see the brownie mix that is next to it. It was MY brownie mix. HECK NO, she wasn't going to use MY brownie mix to make her brownies. I've been saving it for weeks and have been wanting to bake it myself. It's suppose to be the best mix and I wanted to be the first one to bake it. (Yes, I know I sound like a little girl who is throwing a tantrum about some silly little thing but if you only knew how much I wanted to use this mix myself, you would totally understand). Oh and btw, I had planned to bake brownies last weekend (during the hurricane) but my sis had beat me to it and stole my glory. I wasn't going to bake brownies after she made her own brownies AND a red velvet cake. Pshhhhh, nuh uh, not this time.

So long story short, I wasn't going to let my sister steal my glory again. I decided to make the brownies myself (at 10:30pm)!

And here are the pics.

Ahh, it's so nice to have a sis that has all the baking supplies needed to bake ;)

A friend recommended this mix when my brownies had turned out to be cake like the last time I made it. I've been meaning to buy it since but what pushed me to finally do it was when my manager recommended it as well. She had bought some into work and it was de-li-cious! She recommended the Ghirardelli Chocolate Triple Chocolate Brownie mix but I couldn't find that specific one.

Man, I was able to tell the difference right way. After mixing everything up, I noticed that it was really thick. I could tell that it was going to turn out to be the texture that I like.

And here is the end result...

I think it looks pretty good. What do you think?

Oh, I should mention that I did NOT eat these last night!! I was strong enough to wait till the next day to eat it. I helped myself to a piece and a nice cup of coffee and had it for breakfast ;)

What was my first impression? It was pretty sweet. The texture was good. It was nice and thick. Solid but not hard. Much better than the last time I made it (used a diff mix). The walnut was eh. There was something odd about it. It didn't taste fresh? Overall, I wasn't entirely happy with this and was little disappointed, probably because I was so hyped up about it. Don't get me wrong though. It was still a pretty good brownie. I'm going to give it another try later after I eat my lunch to see if my opinion on it changes.

Even though I was not ecstatic about these brownies, I'm not giving up! The next time I make brownies, I am going to get the specific mix that my manager used and see what's up. I can't see how I can mess it up. The instructions are really easy and it only takes about 10 mins to prepare.

Btw, guess what happens after I finish mixing. It had turned out to be a very small amount so guess what my sis does. She takes out another brownie mix and makes her own! Damn, if it had occurred to me that she was willing to make brownies using another brand mix, I would have saved my brownie making for the next day!

But it's all good. Here are some pics of her brownies.

(This was the mix I used the last time - I'm not a big fan of it.)

Can you tell from the pic that this mixture was not as thick?

Which one looks better? Hers is on the left and mine is on the right. Check out the size difference.

Unfortunately, I do not have any closeups of her brownies. She had taken it all on her trip before I woke up.

Alright, it's almost lunch time. I'm in the mood for some pan fried spam and rice.

Till next time!

::Update:: I just had another piece of it and it was really good!!!! It's not as sweet as I thought. I guess eating brownies first thing in the morning is not the right way to go.

  1. I liked it a lot. I can't wait to try the triple brownie mix. I may be going to Costco next week with Matt so I'll keep my eyes out for it.

  2. The 2nd one looks really chocolatey so I'd pick Number 2! Due to your brownie mix pictures I may make some brownies...
